Made with Love and Insulin

To all my blog followers that have read along with my pregnancy journey, introducing Lillian Grace born on July 13!

3 months old

Lillian is pictured with all the insulin and omnipods I used during my second and third trimesters of pregnancy. I didn’t start saving these until a few weeks into my second trimester so if I would have saved them all from the beginning, it would be even more!

The insulin vials and pens here total 16,000 units of insulin, but I used even more than that throughout my entire pregnancy. When thinking about this in terms of cost (from insurance claims), these 16,000 units of insulin cost about $5,000 and the 53 omnipods here are about $2,600. I was also using Dexcom so those sensors and transmitters add up to about another $2,500. This is before insurance coverage but highlights the expense that is having diabetes.

Stay tuned for a blog post sharing my diabetes management during delivery and through the hospital stay coming in the near future!
